Quick answers

Nothing happens on the pedal

Check the cue track's MIDI hardware output in your DAW and that the pedal's MIDI device is enabled there. Press a tile's play button to test. In the standalone app, pick a port in How to connect (at the top of each page) or Options > MIDI Output.

Scenes change but presets don't (or only work with PedalCues bypassed)

PedalCues is on the cue track. Its VST3 version can't receive Program Changes, so the clips' preset changes are dropped on the way out. Take the plugin off the cue tracks and put it on a track of its own, sending its MIDI to the cue tracks (see Set up your DAW). On a Mac, the AU version on the cue track also works.

Sync from QC says "No Quad Cortex found"

Connect the QC's USB port (a MIDI cable isn't enough), switch it on, and quit Cortex Control, which keeps the USB connection to itself. On Linux, install the USB permission rule from the guide once.

The Whammy doesn't react

If the QC or Kemper is on USB and the Whammy hangs off its Thru, that can't work: neither forwards USB MIDI to its Thru, and the Whammy itself has only a 5-pin MIDI In. Open the Wiring guide in the app for setups that work.

I have a QC Mini

Pick Quad Cortex Mini in the device list (the arrow on the first tab). Its scenes and footswitches show as A–D on Page I and Page II, the same MIDI as the Quad Cortex's A–H. Its MIDI jacks are 3.5 mm TRS (Type A): use a TRS MIDI cable or a 5-pin to TRS adapter.

The Kemper doesn't react

Set the Kemper to a fixed MIDI channel (it's Omni out of the box) and the same number at the top of the Kemper page, and check that the first tab shows your Kemper model. Put Kemper clips on the Kemper Cues track.

The Quad Cortex stays in another setlist

Turn on Switch to the preset's setlist (under the Quad Cortex preset list; hover it for what it does), check each preset's setlist number (the QC doesn't report its numbers over USB, so Sync from QC guesses them; set them as your QC shows them), then drag the preset clips into your DAW again.

A device or pedal page doesn't react (Fractal, Line 6, HeadRush, Darkglass, Nano Cortex, Strymon, Boss, Meris, Chase Bliss...)

These pages are built from the manufacturers' manuals and not tested on hardware yet. Check the unit's MIDI channel (About this unit on the page says where it's set) against the channel at the top of its page, and that the cue track sends to the unit. Fractal pages use the factory default CCs: if you changed them, use a custom MIDI device. On an Axe-Fx III, FM9, FM3 or VP4, assign the CC numbers from the device's About this unit on the unit first. On a HeadRush, set each rig's MIDI PROG to the number on its preset tile, turn Prog Change Recv on, and use a MIDI cable (not USB). On a Nano Cortex, set EXP/MIDI INPUT MODE to MIDI for the TRS jack. On an Anagram, if the first preset doesn't load, tell us (PedalCues sends Program Change 1 for 01A). Pedals that take MIDI on a TRS jack (Meris, Chase Bliss, several Strymon pedals) need the maker's cable or MIDI box: About this unit says which. Please tell us what works.

A custom MIDI device doesn't react

Check its MIDI channel (the same at the top of its page and on the device) and the CC numbers and values in its MIDI chart, which differ for every device. Use Test on the device in the tile editor. If it loads the preset next to the one you wanted, switch Programs count from 0 / 1 on the device card.

Song Builder: a device doesn't follow the song

Each device needs its own MIDI channel, set the same on the device: the channel under each track's name is what's sent (right-click the track > MIDI channel to change it). With one file and one MIDI output (a daisy chain or a backing-track player), keep your DAW track on its original channels (Reaper: Send to original channels). If your DAW sends a track on one channel, or each device is on its own port, export a file per track. See the guide.

A change lands a little late, though the clip is on the grid

Your gear needs a moment to react. Move that clip a little to the left in your DAW (a sixteenth or less: make the grid finer or turn snap off for the move). A scene or stomp tile with Load 1A first on waits a sixteenth for its preset, so drop it a sixteenth early. For Whammy treadle moves, set Early by in the Treadle moves header instead, and keep the clip snapped to the grid. See the guide.

Whammy bends sound a little late

The Whammy's pitch shifting takes a moment. Set Early by in the Treadle moves header (try 20 ms) and drag the moves again: they play that much earlier inside their clips, so you still drop them on the beat. Mode changes aren't moved.

Song Builder: I don't hear the click or the backing track

They come out of PedalCues' audio output: in the plugin, the DAW track PedalCues is on (check its volume, mute and output); in the standalone app, your computer's audio output. Check that Metronome is on, the click lane isn't Off for that section, and the backing track's M isn't lit. Click... sets the volume and whether the click and backing track share both sides. The count-in always clicks.

Are my changes saved?

Yes, automatically. The right end of each page's MIDI strip shows Saving..., then ✓ Saved (standalone app, written on this computer) or ✓ In your project (plugin: save your DAW project as usual to keep it on disk).

macOS says PedalCues "is damaged"

It isn't. macOS blocks apps Apple hasn't notarised. Use the installer (PedalCues-macOS.pkg): if macOS says it can't verify it, click Done, then System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway. With the zip, run xattr -cr /Applications/PedalCues.app in Terminal. See the install steps.

How do I update?

When the app shows Update to vX.Y.Z, click it and download. Close your DAW, then run the installer (macOS, Windows): it replaces the old version. On Linux, unzip and run ./install.sh. Your setup and projects are kept. See What's new for what changed.
